What exactly have parapsychologists proven through all of their experiments?

December 29, 2009 - 8:23 pm 2 Comments

I have done a lot of research on parapsychology, but I haven’t found much success in their experiments. Actually, the only experiment I know is the Ganzfeld experiment, which tests ESP/Clairvoyance and telepathy.

Name as many experiments as you can please!!!??

Stanford and Maimonides Medical have demonstrated dream telepathy.
http://www.lucidity.com and http://www.stanleykrippner.com

http://www.monroeinstitute.org has shown remote viewers’ similar results in real time.

Grinberg-Zylberbaum 1993, Sabell 2001, Wackermann 2003, and Standish 2004 found non-local non-EMF telepathy occurring with pairs of meditators.

Orme-Johnson 1982 found groups able to influence meditation.

http://www.heartmath.org and http://www.divinecosmos.com have some interesting experiments.

Dr. William A Tiller http://www.tiller.org has great evidence for non-local influence. Dr. Elizabeth Mayer’s "Extraordinary Knowing" has some good paradigms.

"The Afterlife Experiments," Dr. Gary Schwartz, and other work by him, is interesting.

Work mentioned in "God Is not Dead," Amit Goswami, Ph.D.

http://www.lifebeforelife.com and "Children Who Remember Previous Lives," Stevenson, M.D., are good, albeit necessarily less "experimental" in the sense of "moving molecules."

http://www.ehe.org
http://www.itp.edu
http://www.healthsystem.virginia.edu/DOPS
also good.

"Parapsychological Revolution," Schoch and Yonavjak,
"An Introduction to Parapsychology," Irwin and Watt, and
"Parapsychology: A Concise History," J. Beloff, are also helpful.

If you believe in the paranormal..would it bother you to be married to a parapsychologist?

This would make a great book or movie! Can you imagine the possibilities? I see the characters playing jokes on each other, being mischievous etc. The dialog could be hilarious; "Don’t make me levitate your azz!", "You and what army of demons?" "I read your mind. Don’t go there!". The plot could be about trying to collect that $1,000,000 from Randi (who probably wouldn’t come through even if you levitated him to the moon and back (maybe back…), predicted dice throws 100 times straight, and then introduced him to George Washington’s ghost!)

Are there any parapsychologist in this section?

Are are we all just trying to help each other?
(For some reason ..Yahoo put this in the pregnancy section. lol You can imagine what kind of answers I’m getting over there!!)
wolfe…just wondering if there’s anyone on here who knows more than I do (I hope!)
PD…What in the world have you done to yourself??? Have you been under too much stress?lol

It depends on your definition. If you mean only those that hold a doctorate in parapsychology then I doubt it. There are very few of those in the world.
If you mean a psychologist (requires a doctorate) that did his or her dissertation on something related to parapsychology then possibly ( a few more of those exist).
If you mean someone working full time in the field of parapsychology again I doubt it (very few of those people).
If you mean a person that is a scientist that does research on parapsychology in perhaps research projects or his/her spare time then again possibly.

If you simply mean an educated person that has some experience with parapsychology then I suspect there are such people on from time to time.
For example one of the remote viewers for the US StarGate Remote Viewing program (a retired military intelligence officer) is on this forum infrequently.

To once again correct some posted misinformation there is a qualification to called a parapsychologist and that would be a doctorate degree in parapsychology. Lloyd Auerbach who holds a Masters degree appropriately calls himself a parapsychological associate. This is taken from psychology where Masters are licensed as psychological associates and PhD and PsyD are licensed psychologist.
Most people working in the field of parapsychology hold doctorate degrees in some conventional science (psychology, engineering, biology, etc) and call themselves by the title in which they have a degree. For example Rupert Sheldrake while doing experiments on ESP in animals still is a biologist not a parapsychologist.

I can’t speak for anyone but myself but I am trying to help people on this forum when I can by showing them where to find the research that has been done concerning the questions they ask.

Is there a Parapsychologist that studies Mediums?

December 29, 2009 - 8:23 pm 2 Comments

This has been studied by Dr. Gary Schwartz at the University of Arizona called the VERITAS program (link below) the work continues with a new program name.

I have also included a link to a podcast interview with Dr. Schwartz.

He has written several books about his research. The most popular is perhaps the After Life Experiments (link below).

His name was Dr. Scott Rogo an American Parapsychologist who was murdered in the early 1990’s. What I would like to know is, Did they ever catch the other killers involved?
I saw this on the T.V a couple of years back it was on Sightings with Tim White.Anyone know and help me with this?

Why do they call it "para"noia, paranormal, parapsychologist, paratrooper?

December 29, 2009 - 8:23 pm 7 Comments

The non-complicated answer is that ‘para’ basically means ‘beyond’ so you have ‘para’ noia (noia meaning normal behavior). paranormal refers to things beyond normal experience. parapsychologist deals with people who are very mentally sick or disabled. a paratrooper is considered trained ‘beyond’ a normal trooper or soldier, etc.

Does a parapsychologist have a recognised qualification ?

December 29, 2009 - 8:23 pm 4 Comments

In its genuine form is it the study of the belief in the subject rather than the subject matter itself ?
This is a genuine question as I think I may have misunderstood the concept.

Not everyone who describe themselves as a parapsychologist.
There are some genuine academics who make a scientific study of belief in the paranormal. Dr Susan Blackmore is an excellent example; she is a highly respected psychologist and academic who held the chair of parapsychology at the University of the West of England.
However, there are many people out there who have no appropriate qualifications and who interpret ‘parapsychology’ to include any and all activities that could loosely described as investigating the paranormal, so you have real woo-woo merchants, credophiles who have totally bought into belief in ghosts goblins and UFOs, who describe themselves thus.

What is a parapsychologist exactly?

December 28, 2009 - 6:10 am 5 Comments

Most ghost hunters claim to be one are they really?

I ask because the people I know who claim to be a parapsyhologist have only a high school education and day jobs.

Forgive my ignorance.
quibs: you made me laugh although I don’t think anyone claiming to be one will agree though. but thanks for the laugh.

Would you call someone who collected rocks a geologist, even if he had no training or degree in geology, and pumped gas for a living? I would guess not. Then why would you call the same person sitting in a "haunted" house with a emf reader a parapsychologist? It is a made up term to make dopes and con artists seem credible.

Has anybody seen a parapsychologist ?

December 28, 2009 - 6:10 am 2 Comments

There’s this parapsychologist that is working on his doctorite based on his lifetime experiences because he wants to practice criminology. Would you go see him if you had nighmares that later come true?

No, I have never seen a parapsychologist.

As a matter of fact, I’m not sure they exist!  I think all the stories about them are just urban myths, like the disappearing hitchhiker.

what exactly is a parapsychologist?

I know it has something to deal with paranormal stuff, what do you need to do to become one? like what kind of stuff would you have to study?

Parapsychology is a discipline that seeks to demonstrate the existence and causes of psychic abilities and life after death using the scientific method.

I think those who have the ability are born with it
