Life after death

Discussing the evidence for and against our continued existence after death. I mostly look at the phenomenon known as “NDE” or near-death experience. As an atheist, I keep an open mind, and I believe that NDE’s present a problem for the materialistic worldview. As rationalists and freethinkers, it is our duty to take new evidence into account. NDE’s can not merely be shrugged-off or easily explained-away; and therefore, I think we should pay this phenomenon its due attention. Why not?

    I would respond to …
I would respond to your rather flimsy arguments except for the fact that I don’t deal with 2-year old’s who have to resort to name-calling in order to draw attention to themselves. Baby go bye-bye, mmkay?

    You are not …
You are not intellectually equiped to be lecturing anyone about anything bozo. You are a sophist. And a dim witted sophist at that.

  3. cunnidvd says:

    You seem to hold …
You seem to hold atheism as a sacred doctrine. I agree that NDE and atheism are in no way exclusive of one another. However, you seemed to be ready to dismiss the NDE if it conflicted with atheism as if atheism was an absolute truth. Duh! If the facts contradicted atheism would you deny the facts. You need a lesson in basic logic.

    Lucid dreaming …
Lucid dreaming isn’t hard to do when you know how. And when you can, you’ll wonder why you never started earlier.

Also if you have ever study any form of science, you will realise that energy is never lost, it only chnges state. we never die. We only ever change state.

  5. xx13moons says:

    I’ve never been …
I’ve never been able to Lucid dream, no. But I’ve actually always been interested trying a technique known as “Astral Projection.”

Yea I see that book …
Yea I see that book in the physics section every time I go to Borders Books, and I’ve always wanted to pick it up but I was afraid that it might be too “pseudo-science-ish.” Now that you’ve recommended it, I’ll be sure to buy it next time I see it, probably soon, thanks! :)

    Cool, I have not …
Cool, I have not heard of some of the things you’ve mentioned. Though I’ve obviously read some of Stevenson’s work, since I brought it up in the video. I’ll have to check out some of the other stuff you referenced though. Thanks for the suggestions and comments!

    You may have …
You may have already read this book based on what you’ve said in your video, but I recommend you read The Holographic Universe by Michael Talbot.
The book is not without it’s flaws, but overall it’s a masterpiece.

I also keep an open mind, hence I’m an agnostic as opposed to an atheist or theist.

    Super-psi vs. …
Super-psi vs. survival is a big debate in parapsychology. Read much of the available evidence and evaluate the best hypotheses consistent with the data. There are many good books objectively evaluating this evidence. I suggest you read Immortal Remains by Stephen Braude and also Irreducible Mind by Edward Kelly et al. It’s not so clear-cut, for example, to say that the only explanation for Stevenson’s evidence is survival. There are other competing paranormal hypotheses.

  10. MrEvidential says:

    I think the most …
I think the most compelling evidence for survival of consciousness after death is the evidence suggestive of reincarnation amassed by Stevenson, Haraldsson, and others – and the evidence for mediumship. However, there are other paranormal explanations for the data that do not require a survival one – such as super-psi – though much of the data is probably best explained by appeal to the survival hypothesis.

    It was probably ( …
It was probably (almost for sure) a Sleep Paralysis with some hallucinations but I still need to explain why I did woke up almost every night in 1:11 (on digital clock) and why did 111 and 1111 appear everywhere and stopped after that experience. Strange stuff, huh?

    Enjoyed your thoughts! Thank you!

    These 11:11 Wake-Up …
These 11:11 Wake-Up Calls on your digital clocks, mobile phones, VCRs and microwaves are the “trademark” prompts of a group of just 1,111 fun-loving Spirit Guardians, or Angels, and the 11:11 prompt is their way of using our innate ability for pattern recognition to let us know that they are here. – THIS IS THE MOST CREEPIEST THING I EVER READ IN MY WHOLE LIFE!!! I need to make some sense out of it, fast or I’ll go mad lol

    The Egyptians …
The Egyptians believe that the best way to prepare for the after life, was to go their a few times(with the use of entheogens) while living. And to be able to control your dreams, and your experience in the “other dimension” while there.
Once one labels themselves as something, they now have limits.

    Great presentation …
Great presentation on one of my favourite topics! I never had a religion (though I’m no decided atheist) and at this point in my life, I believe/hope that when I die, I’ll be able to go wherever I want to in time & space. My ideal situation: flying over earth’s various places , populated with few or no people. Ahhh, the silence & sounds of nature! I’m being serious.

  16. organdva says:

    I had some strange …
I had some strange outer-body-levitation-experience. Does 111 or 1111 means anything in kabbalah or in the occult cos I’ve seen this numbers everywhere for a month before that experience and it would be really interesting if that means anything.

It is cool of you for doing this topic. I kinda develop the attitude of ”what happens happens”.

Did you have any lucid dream or outer body, or anything of that kind, yourself?

  17. xx13moons says:

    Thanks. Yea I was …
Thanks. Yea I was wondering how my friends in the atheist community might take this video. We’ll see. So far so good. With the death topic, I think it’s good to stay open-minded. Because whether atheist, theist or agnostic – the fact is, no one really knows what happens. We can speculate though, and that’s what I try to do; speculation that stays somewhat within the realm of evidence, as to not drift to far into la-la land, heh. Peace :)

    excellent take on …
excellent take on this topic. I, like you, try to keep an open mind about death. But I rarely discuss my feelings about it.
